Louisburg, N.C. – Triangle North and Franklin County officials celebrated the completion of Triangle North Franklin’s new access road Sept. 12 with a grand opening and ribbon cutting for business, government and community partners and supporters.
The newly opened section of Airport Road makes Triangle North Franklin business park and its adjacent Triangle North Executive Airport more accessible and attractive for business investment.
“We celebrate today’s road opening as a representation of true collaboration among many entities and elected officials,” said Shane Mitchell, chairman of the Franklin County Board of Commissioners and a board member for the Kerr-Tar Regional Economic Development Corp., which owns and develops Triangle North. “With the opening of this road, we now have direct access to the Triangle North business park as well as the Triangle North Executive Airport, providing even easier access for businesses and air travelers.”
Major funding for the Triangle North Franklin road includes a $1.7 million grant from the U.S. Department of Commerce Economic Development Administration to build an access road linking the business park and executive airport directly to U.S. Highway 401. The federal grant to Franklin County and KTREDC leveraged $900,000 in N.C. Department of Transportation funding to complete the roadway.
KTREDC board member Keith Smith said the four counties of Vance, Warren, Granville and Franklin, that collaborated to develop the parks, all benefit from the Franklin County park’s improvement.
“This is the latest development in the ongoing creation of the Triangle North organization, which provides business parks in each of the four counties,” Smith said. “The Kerr-Tar Regional Economic Development Corporation is an unprecedented multi-county effort to enable these four rural counties to participate more fully in the technology-driven economy of the Research Triangle Region of North Carolina.”
