Henderson, N.C. – The Kerr-Tar Regional Economic Development Corp., owner
and developer of the Kerr-Tar Hub economic development project, has been selected
as one of 20 finalists in the 2007 Center for Sustainable Communities Awards
Program.
The 2007 winners will be announced in the first week of September 2007.
The awards program recognizes projects in which counties partner with other
governments, the private sector and community leaders to help make their communities
more economically prosperous, environmentally safe and socially equitable.
The awards are presented every two years by The National Association of Counties
Center for Sustainable Communities, which helps local elected officials build
sustainable communities by promoting community leadership initiatives, providing
technical assistance and training and conducting community policy and educational
forums.
The Kerr-Tar Hub is an economic development initiative, owned and managed by
the Kerr-Tar Regional Economic Development Corp., to create a network of specialized
industrial parks in four rural N.C. counties of Franklin, Granville, Vance and
Warren, to attract jobs and business opportunities. The project has been nationally
recognized for its unique approach of sharing both costs and revenues across
county lines to develop and energize the region’s economy.
