Recently Ken Bowman and Harry Mills traveled with the Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina (EDPNC), and members of 4 other North Carolina counties, to foster a continued relationship with site consultants he has worked with and to meet with new members of the various site selection companies. These companies are working with industry and business clients looking for locations to establish a new location or expand an existing company.
Office meetings were conducted with consultants from the following firms: Jones Lang LaSalle, Deloitte, Ernst & Young, Site Selection Group, Newmark Grubb, Jackson Cooksey, and E. Smith Partners.
The small group meetings were excellent venues for exchanging the current market environment and what these firms are seeing with recruitment and investments. Warren County and the region was promoted as a great place to locate their business or expand an existing business. The goal was to meet with as many company representatives as possible in the 2 day event and share what Warren County and the State of North Carolina have to offer and the benefits this region has to offer.
Some of the many topics discussed included; The outlook for the labor market 5-10 years from now
More companies are looking at expansion then re-locations
The disconnect at the local level between industry and education
The added value of internships in today’s market
Companies are researching workforce and skills before looking for buildings or sites
The labor market and demographics drive the site selection search
Company’s representatives will go to an area of interest, unannounced, and talk to other companies in the area to get a sense of the community
The new federal administration has created interest from Asian companies looking for a US location due to proposed tariffs
At the conclusion of each meeting data sheets along with promotional literature and business cards were exchanged.
